Narooma Region

Narooma is a picturesque town on the NSW south coast with plenty to offer from sandy inlet beaches to bays and waves, brand new Mountain Bike Park with shuttles, fishing and pub drinks with a view.

I visited for a few nights in 2024, and while I didn’t come close to seeing everything here is a few things to do on a short stop in Narooma.

Things to do in Narooma

Narooma Moutain Bike Trails

The Narooma Mountain Bike Trails are brand new, have shuttles available most days and both technical and flow tracks.

I’m told by my friends the tracks are shorter so it’s a good place for riding with mates and making the most of the shuttles. There is a 2nd trailhead higher in the hills where you can connect multiple tracks for longer rides.

My skill level is firmly in the ‘Railtrail’ category so check out Mountain Bike Narooma for more info.

Hire a Boat (no licence required), canoe or stand up paddle board

There is no licence required to hire fishing or bbq boats from the Narooma Marina (though I would have been very nervous had I not been with someone who had more experience in boats than me – I’m a worrier).

You can fish but you can also just enjoy being out on the water and if you are a birder or photographer bring the camera and binoculars, theres plenty of sea birds around the inlets edge and on some of the oyster farms.

You can also hire from Mals BBQ boats but I chose Narooma Marina for the dog friendly small fishing boats to just go for a cruise (and they even had dog friendly life jackets to borrow)!

Enjoy a drink with a Million Dollar View

The Narooma Hotel has a relaxed dog friendly deck (when I visited in January 2024 with views out over the inlet and coast.

Its menu is fairly typical pub food but they were happy to let me make a few changes to cater for dietary requirements.

Head for a swim

There are plenty of beaches to choose from with the net-enclosed Bar Beach being a popular option.

I didn’t make it for a swim but it’s apparently a good spot for a swim or even a snorkel as the rock wall is one side of the swimming area.

The sandy river beach on Wagonga Inlet at Quota Park was a popular stand-up paddle spot when we drove past and plenty of people were having a paddle and a swim in the shallows.

Accommodation in Narooma

If you don’t need to be walking distance from town then Discovery Parks Narooma has a range of different cabins as well as a caravan park/campground and has beach access.

They also have dog friendly cabins in the campground section.
